Korean Air Wins Presidential Award for Corporate Innovation... Turning Passenger Planes into Cargo Planes with 'Reverse Thinking'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Korean Air announced on the 8th that it received the Presidential Award at the 27th Corporate Innovation Awards ceremony held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Korean Air was highly evaluated for its quick response to the COVID-19 crisis, including achieving profitability through a counterintuitive strategy of converting passenger planes into cargo-only aircraft.
Amid the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted aircraft operations worldwide and reduced passenger demand, Korean Air focused its capabilities on cargo transportation, resulting in consecutive profits in the second and third quarters of this year. As of October this year, Korean Air's cumulative cargo transport volume reached approximately 1.2 million tons.
The company was also highly praised for establishing an untact (contactless) work environment by utilizing IT technology.
