Suncheon-si Selected as an Excellent Local Government in the Self-Sufficiency Project Sector by the Ministry of Health and Welfare This Year
Strengthening the Self-Reliance Will and Establishing a Foundation for Independence of Low-Income Groups
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) has been selected as an excellent institution in this year's local government evaluation in the self-sufficiency project sector hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and will receive a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.
This evaluation was conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, which assessed the performance of local governments nationwide in four areas: self-sufficiency labor, asset-building support projects, activation of self-sufficiency funds, and operation of self-sufficiency projects, selecting outstanding institutions.
Suncheon City has contributed to strengthening the self-reliance will of low-income groups by providing stable jobs and supporting employment and start-ups to solidify self-sufficiency projects. In particular, to promote self-sufficiency, it has entrusted the operation of a 1.7 billion KRW budget for self-sufficiency labor projects to the Suncheon Regional Self-Sufficiency Center. Approximately 150 participants in 13 project groups, including Clean, Huinyeoul Laundry, Nurungji and Bugak, and Mangchijaengi, are engaged in various self-sufficiency labor activities suited to their aptitudes and abilities.
Next year, they plan to launch a Youth Self-Reliance Challenger Self-Sufficiency Project Group (Cafe Project Group) that young people can participate in, and an employment-inducing self-sufficiency labor project where self-sufficiency project participants work as self-sufficiency intern employees in general companies, gaining skills and experience and then moving on to employment.
A Suncheon City official said, “Although it is difficult to promote self-sufficiency projects due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we will strive to improve the welfare of beneficiaries with work ability by implementing various policies to establish a foundation for the self-reliance of low-income groups.”
