Kim Kang-lip, Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), held a meeting with the Korea Foodservice Industry Association and the Korea Rest Area Foodservice Association at the Seoul Regional Food and Drug Administration on the 8th, announcing plans to prepare various support measures.
Commissioner Kim emphasized, "To curb the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), social distancing level 2.5 will be implemented in the metropolitan area for three weeks starting today," adding, "Active participation in quarantine efforts from the private sector is necessary."
After listening to difficulties on the ground, Commissioner Kim stated, "There will be many challenges for restaurants, cafes, and others due to strengthened quarantine measures," and added, "We will prepare various measures, including providing incentives to companies excelling in quarantine management."
They also exchanged opinions on plans to reduce administrative sanctions and provide incentives such as commendations for companies excelling in quarantine management, as well as establishing grounds for supporting quarantine supplies like droplet barrier facilities through the Food Promotion Fund.

Commissioner Kim expressed deep gratitude to restaurant and cafe operators and related associations who have done their best to prevent the spread of COVID-19 despite economic difficulties, and urged, "We ask the public to cancel all gatherings as much as possible and to follow personal hygiene rules such as wearing masks and hand sanitizing anytime and anywhere."
