Kim Jae-ha, emergency committee chairman of the KCTU, and other KCTU leaders held a press conference on the stairs in front of the National Assembly main building in Yeouido, Seoul, in the morning, criticizing, "Although they try to obscure the essence of the deterioration by making clumsy wording revisions to the Trade Union Act amendment, the substance of restricting union activities and reflecting the employer's position has not changed."
The government's amendment to the Trade Union Act is aimed at ratifying the International Labour Organization (ILO) core conventions. While it expands freedom of association by allowing unemployed and dismissed workers to join unions according to the core convention standards, it also reflects business demands by prohibiting workplace occupation during strikes.
They held a press conference displaying a banner that read "Condemn the Moon Jae-in government's forced labor law deterioration." National Assembly staff urgently tried to restrain them during the press conference held inside the National Assembly, where assemblies are prohibited.
The KCTU also stated regarding the amendment to the Labor Standards Act, "The discussion to expand the flexible working hours system is an anti-human rights law that pushes workers, who are driven to the limit by long working hours, off a cliff," and demanded, "The discussion must be stopped immediately."
