The Big Data Festival, one of Mirae Asset's representative social contribution programs, was designed to closely simulate the analysis processes actually used in the field so that university and graduate students interested in data could gain practical experience in advance.
The 2020 Financial Big Data Festival was held in an Ontact format (a combination of online and untact) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting from the traditional on-site communication-centered event style. Notably, it was the first event in the financial sector to provide anonymized customer data after an appropriateness evaluation of data anonymization, allowing participants to experience practical customer behavior analysis, which differentiated it from previous events.
Mirae Asset Daewoo selected the securities industry theme, "Predicting Top Purchased Stocks Based on Stock Trading History," while Mirae Asset Life Insurance chose the insurance industry theme, "Classification of Insurance Claim Cases."
The event ran for a total of 16 weeks from August 3 to December 2, with online applications accepted. A total of 495 teams from 92 universities nationwide applied, and six teams that passed the preliminary round were given the opportunity to receive intensive remote mentoring from field experts in the Mirae Asset Daewoo Data Lab team and the Mirae Asset Life Insurance Digital Innovation team.
The award ceremony was held online, and all students who applied for the Big Data Festival were able to watch the presentations of the final round teams.
The grand prize was awarded to the team "Saenggalchi1ho-ui Haengbangbulmyeong" composed of graduate students from Yonsei University. They proposed stock purchase predictions using machine learning and deep learning under the theme "Preference-Based Top Purchased Stock Prediction Using Collaborative Filtering." They received high marks for also suggesting personalized recommendation services and sustainable service usage plans.
The Excellence Award went to the teams "SangtanaHOXY" and "Makgora," while the Encouragement Award was given to the teams "DataJomAneunGaemideul" and "BoheomNaraCodingGongju."
