LG Donates 12 Billion Won in Year-End Neighborly Love Fundraising
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG donated 12 billion KRW in year-end neighborly love donations. They also expanded non-face-to-face volunteer activities by employees of each company to help neighbors.
On the 8th, LG announced that it delivered the donation at the Community Chest of Korea headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, attended by Ye Jong-seok, chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, and Lee Bang-su, president of LG CSR Team. The donated funds will be used for basic livelihood support for socially vulnerable groups, improvement of housing and educational environments, and youth education projects.
Since the end of last month, LG Electronics has recorded fairy tale books with employees and their families for children from multicultural families and the visually impaired, delivering both books and audio files, and has started producing subtitles for movies for the hearing impaired.
Unlike previous years when LG Display employees made kimchi themselves every year and delivered it to marginalized groups, this year, the 16th year, they purchased finished kimchi and delivered it to welfare facilities near their workplaces. The total amount of kimchi delivered to date is 185 tons (92,000 heads).
LG Uplus plans to donate part of the proceeds from selling about 60 domestic contemporary art pieces by employees through the ‘Hope Art Sharing Auction’ to marginalized groups. Since October, they have been operating the ‘LG Uplus Budget Phone Hope Windmill Donation Plan,’ where 10% of the monthly subscription fee is automatically donated until the end of the year.
LG CNS has converted the coding education program for youth, ‘Coding Geniuses,’ to online education and is expanding it nationwide from the existing metropolitan area. In addition, affiliates such as LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Household & Health Care, and LG Uplus are supporting essential goods such as clothing, food, quarantine supplies, and rural love gift certificates so that neighbors in difficult situations in local communities can spend the winter warmly.
Meanwhile, LG has donated neighborly love donations totaling 200 billion KRW to the Community Chest of Korea from 1999 to this year. Earlier this February, they donated 5 billion KRW in relief funds to overcome COVID-19, supported LG Electronics’ electronic masks, dryers, LG Household & Health Care’s bottled water, toiletries, and disinfectant products, and in August, donated 2 billion KRW for flood recovery support.
