Goheung Clean Sea Area Kim Production in Full Swing... Expected to Surpass 100 Billion Won in Auction Amount
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Song Gwigeun, the governor of Goheung County, attended the '2021 Raw Gim Auction Opening Ceremony' held at Balpo Auction Market in Dohwa-myeon on the 7th, praying for the safe operation and bountiful harvest of gim aquaculture fishermen.
According to Goheung County on the 7th, this year, raw gim is being produced in a total of 102,230 rafts over an aquaculture area of 10,223 hectares, and since the auction started on November 24, a total of 2,471 tons and 2.2 billion KRW in auction sales have been recorded so far.
The auction price is traded between a minimum of 90,000 KRW and a maximum of 121,000 KRW per sack (based on 120 kg), which is higher in both auction volume and amount compared to last year, indicating an expected bountiful harvest this year as well.
Goheung County produced 99,000 tons last year, recording auction sales of 93.2 billion KRW, and this year, with lower than average water temperatures and favorable sea conditions, it is expected that auction sales will exceed 100 billion KRW.
Gim produced in Goheung is recognized for its excellent quality, accounting for about 80% of the nationwide production of gim used for gimbap, and is registered under the Geographical Indication System (No. 2015-21). In particular, its superior taste and aroma captivate consumers' palates, and it is exported to the United States, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
