Chairman Kim Sang-yeol of Hoban Construction Donates 50 Million Won in Scholarships for Seocho-gu Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jo Eun-hee) announced on the 7th that it received a scholarship fund of 50 million KRW from Hoban Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Kim Sang-yeol) for low-income students.
The scholarship will be used to support low-income students in the area who are experiencing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and will be spent appropriately for academic encouragement purposes such as purchasing study materials and exploring career paths.
Hoban Scholarship Foundation has continued to provide 50 million KRW in scholarships to low-income students this year as well as last year, practicing sharing with neighbors together with Seocho-gu as a member of the Seocho community.
This scholarship selected a total of 67 students after Seocho-gu recommended diligent and academically hardworking students among those participating in the 'Seoripul Saem' project to Hoban Scholarship Foundation, which then conducted a review. However, due to COVID-19, the scholarship will be delivered individually to the recipients without a separate certificate awarding ceremony.
The 'Seoripul Saem' project operated by Seocho-gu is an educational welfare program that uses excellent local resources such as career-interrupted women and retired teachers to take responsibility for teaching children and adolescents in the area who lack academic support. It aims to reduce educational gaps while providing opportunities for community service and job creation, achieving various positive effects.
Especially this year, as non-face-to-face classes have expanded due to COVID-19, Seocho-gu has been supporting learning for low-income elementary and middle school students through ‘AI Smart Schooling’ using AI learning devices to address learning gaps caused by educational polarization. At the same time, it has linked this with the existing customized mentoring for low-income students called ‘Seoripul Saem’ to provide emotional support as well, producing significant results.
