Haenam-gun Secures 10 Billion Won Budget for Construction of Regional Horticultural Vegetable Shipment Control Center
Continuous Advocacy for Business Necessity, Reflected in New Projects by Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
First in Jeonnam Region, Expected to Solve Chronic Vegetable Production Area Disposal Issues
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 7th that it has secured a budget of 10 billion KRW for the construction of the Jeollanam-do Wide-area Horticultural Vegetable Shipment Control Center.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will establish horticultural vegetable shipment control centers in two locations, including Haenam-gun, through the vegetable shipment control support project as a new project next year.
Each center will receive 10 billion KRW, and cold storage facilities and pre-cooling facilities will be constructed by 2022. This is the first time in the Jeollanam-do region that a shipment control center capable of wide-area supply and demand adjustment will be built.
The horticultural vegetable shipment control center will help stabilize prices by extending the distribution period through cold storage facilities for vegetables that experience significant production and price fluctuations, thereby ensuring proper supply and demand.
Haenam-gun has continuously advocated the necessity of building a large-scale shipment control center with wide-area supply and demand adjustment functions to prevent periodic disposal of open-field vegetables such as napa cabbage, and has actively worked to spread policy consensus.
On the 19th of last month, Haenam-gun Mayor Myeong Hyun-gwan visited the National Assembly to actively explain the necessity of the wide-area horticultural vegetable shipment control center and succeeded in having it included as a new project for next year.
As the largest production area for winter napa cabbage and the local government with the largest area of open-field vegetables, Haenam-gun is expected to play a role as a government raw material stockpile base in the western Jeollanam-do region, storing up to 2,000 tons of volume at once, as well as adjusting the supply and demand of open-field vegetables such as napa cabbage and onions that have no storage capability once the shipment control center is established.

Mayor Myeong Hyun-gwan emphasized, “The wide-area horticultural control center is the first project to be established in the Jeollanam-do region, and as a result of continuous requests to the government to prevent supply and demand imbalances such as vegetable disposal, the new project was reflected. We will actively support the smooth establishment of the shipment control center.”
