Seoul Jung-gu Receives Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation for Revitalizing Traditional Markets
Recognition for Revitalizing Local Commercial Districts through Modernization of Traditional Market and Shopping Street Facilities and Management... Especially High Praise for the Institution's Own Efforts in Traditional Market Revitalization
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seo Yang-ho) received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety on the 4th for its contribution to revitalizing traditional markets in 2020.
This commendation is an award given by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to markets, local governments, and others with outstanding achievements contributing to the development of traditional markets, aimed at boosting the morale and pride of those involved in revitalizing traditional markets.
In particular, the news of the award is even more meaningful as it was received during a period when no Seoul autonomous district had won in the past five years, due to the awards being mainly given to local governments.
Jung-gu, which has 40 traditional markets, received high evaluations for its proactive administration, including ▲ modernization of facilities in 19 markets and improvement of parking environments in 2 markets ▲ promotion of the specialized project to foster a global luxury market ▲ fostering 15 markets such as specialty theme markets and implementing projects for stores filled with memories to revitalize the local commercial district through modernization of traditional market and shopping street facilities and management.
In particular, Jung-gu was highly recognized for its efforts to revitalize traditional markets independently.
Since last September, Jung-gu has been doing its best to contribute to the development of the local commercial district and the income improvement of merchants through proactive and prompt support for small business owners, including emergency management support for small merchants to recover from the unexpected large fire at Jeil Pyeonghwa Market, traditional market quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19, promotion of traditional market days, creating a young market by attracting young merchants, and projects such as new managers and market doctors.
