Seo Jung-jin, Chairman of Celltrion, Selected as One of 'Six Asians of the Year' in Singapore
[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] Seo Jung-jin, Chairman of the Celltrion Group, has been selected as one of the '6 Asians of the Year' by the Singapore daily The Straits Times.
On the 5th, the local newspaper announced that it had chosen six heroes of the year who have been striving to end the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as this year's awardees.
It went on to report that Chairman Seo is investing 300 billion won to develop an antibody treatment for COVID-19.
It also stated that he promised to offer the COVID-19 treatment at manufacturing cost in Korea and at a price lower than other competing companies in the global market.
Furthermore, Chairman Seo was quoted as saying, "In the COVID-19 crisis, pharmaceutical companies must serve the nation as public goods."

Meanwhile, among the six Asians of the Year are Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India (SII), a vaccine manufacturer, and Chen Wei (陳薇), director of the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences, who was honored with the title of 'People's Hero' for her contributions to COVID-19 vaccine development.
