COVID-19 New Cases 583, Below 600... 400 Cases in Capital Area Only (Update)

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] On the 5th, 583 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were identified in South Korea. Although the number decreased from 629 the previous day to the 500s again, the third wave centered around the metropolitan area has not subsided.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, as of midnight on this day, there were 559 locally transmitted cases and 24 imported cases. The total number of confirmed cases increased to 36,915.
The daily number of confirmed cases in the country has been over 300 every day since the 19th of last month, except for one day (November 23rd, 271 cases). Among the 16 days with over 300 cases, there were 3 days in the 400s, 6 days in the 500s, and 1 day in the 600s. The triple-digit daily cases above 100 have continued for 28 consecutive days from the 8th of last month to this day.
On this day, 400 cases were reported in the metropolitan area alone: 231 in Seoul, 150 in Gyeonggi, and 19 in Incheon. Confirmed cases were also reported in all 14 other cities and provinces. Among the 24 imported cases, 12 were detected during quarantine, and the other 12 were confirmed locally. Eight were Korean nationals and 16 were foreigners.

The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation increased by 306 from the previous day to 28,917. Four deaths were reported among confirmed cases, raising the total death toll from 536 to 540.
