BTS 'Idol' MV Surpasses 800 Million Views
Following 'DNA' and 'A Poem for Small Things,' the fifth installment
Big Hit Entertainment announced on the 3rd that the music video for the group BTS's "IDOL" surpassed 800 million cumulative views around 6 p.m. on the 2nd. This is the fifth time a BTS music video has exceeded 800 million views. The music videos that previously reached this milestone are "DNA," "Boy With Luv," "Fake Love," and the remix version of "Mic Drop."
The "IDOL" music video is praised for its sensory visuals, utilizing tropical savanna grasslands and Bukcheong Saja Nori (lion mask dance). The performance combines Samulnori (traditional Korean percussion) and Talchum (mask dance), adding Korean elements with exclamations like "Eolsu jota," "Jihwaja jota," and "Deonggideok kungdeoreoreo." BTS performed "IDOL" in the front yard of Geunjeongjeon Hall at Gyeongbokgung Palace on the popular American NBC program "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" last September. The song was released in August 2018 and reached number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 21 on the UK Official Singles Chart.
