View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power announced the results of the 'Public Data Utilization Hydroelectric Dam Rainfall Prediction Artificial Intelligence (AI) Competition' in the water resources sector on the 2nd.
KHNP Central Research Institute, in collaboration with the Korean Water Resources Association, held an AI algorithm competition to predict the amount of rainfall occurring at major KHNP hydroelectric dams from October 5th to the 13th of last month.
A total of 461 teams, including water resources scholars and data experts, participated. Choi Jaemin from Gachon University, who made the best use of radar image time sequence information, won the competition.
The award ceremony was replaced by delivering certificates and a total prize money of 11 million KRW to three KHNP award-winning teams and one association award-winning team to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

A KHNP official stated, "The results of this competition will be applied to research on radar rainfall prediction technology in hydroelectric dam watersheds," and added, "It is expected to contribute to the safe operation of hydroelectric power plants in the future."
