Trump Criticized by US Attorney General: "No Large-Scale Election Fraud"
William Barr, Attorney General, Denies Election Fraud
Blow to Trump Camp Claiming Election Fraud
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Although U.S. President Donald Trump and his election campaign have claimed that large-scale fraud occurred in this year's presidential election, the U.S. Department of Justice stated that it has not confirmed widespread election fraud. Even William Barr, the Attorney General and a close ally of President Trump, confirmed that there was no large-scale election fraud.
On the 1st (local time), Attorney General Barr said, "The Department of Justice has not found any election fraud that could change the outcome of this election." The New York Times (NYT) reported that Barr's announcement dealt a fatal blow to President Trump, who had claimed election fraud.
Barr said, "There were claims that systemic election fraud existed and that there was a system in the vote-counting machines intentionally designed to induce election fraud, but after the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice investigated this issue, no facts have been found to prove this so far."
In particular, Barr is someone who had expressed support for President Trump within the U.S. administration. Even he admitted that he could not find evidence to support claims of election fraud. He had instructed nationwide prosecutors to investigate whether there was any voter fraud related to this election.
However, the Trump campaign still refuses to drop its claims of election fraud. Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor, personal attorney to President Trump, and leader of election fraud-related lawsuits, said, "As Attorney General, he may feel uncomfortable, but the Department of Justice did not show any intention to investigate election fraud." He claimed, "We found sufficient evidence of election fraud in six states, but the Department of Justice did not try to investigate it."
The U.S. Republican Party is currently experiencing internal controversy over the results of this election. Especially in Georgia, where President-elect Joe Biden won by about 13,000 votes, Trump supporters have been threatening election officials. One election official held a press conference urging, "Someone could get hurt, shot, or killed," and called to "stop actions that could potentially incite violent behavior."
