According to Haenam-gun on the 2nd, since October, they have been operating a special AI quarantine countermeasure situation room, and have installed mobile control posts at five major military boundary points, including a base disinfection facility within the Livestock Promotion Office, to conduct focused quarantine.
At major migratory bird habitats such as Gocheonam Lake, Yeongam Lake, and Geumho Lake, main access roads have been blocked to control entry and exit, and quicklime has been applied to 40 major traffic routes to prevent transmission via vehicles.
In addition to migratory bird habitats, poultry farms are conducting barrier quarantine using three wide-area sprayers, five joint spraying teams, and drones, while supplying disinfectants, quicklime, and wild bird repellents to ensure thorough self-quarantine.
With the first occurrence of highly pathogenic AI this year at a duck farm in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk on the 28th of last month, nationwide temporary movement restrictions were implemented for 48 hours from the 28th to 29th, raising concerns about AI outbreaks.
In this regard, County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan visited the AI quarantine checkpoint on the 30th of last month for an on-site inspection and urged strict quarantine management to prevent the spread of AI.
Governor Myeong said, “Recently, livestock infectious diseases have been occurring nationwide, and the possibility of highly pathogenic AI outbreaks is increasing, so we are establishing and implementing quarantine measures early,” adding, “We hope that farms will strictly follow quarantine rules such as disinfecting livestock barns to keep Haenam free from livestock diseases.”
