93% of Residents in Hyo-deok and Songam-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju "Strongly Support Subdivision"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 1st that, according to a resident survey regarding the subdivision of Hyodeok-dong, a densely populated area, 93% of residents living in Hyodeok-dong and Songam-dong expressed support for the subdivision.
A total of 4,728 residents living in Hyodeok-dong and Songam-dong participated in the survey.
Through this survey, Nam-gu collected residents' opinions on support or opposition to the subdivision of Hyodeok-dong, boundary adjustment plans upon subdivision, and the naming of the newly established district.
As a result, 4,403 residents (93.1%) supported the subdivision of Hyodeok-dong, while 325 residents (6.9%) opposed it.
Regarding "how to adjust the boundaries," 2,212 residents (50.2%) responded that the subdivision should be based on the 2nd Ring Road, while another 2,191 residents (49.7%) suggested incorporating part of Songam-dong within the Hyochon 2 District into the new district based on the 2nd Ring Road.
For the name of the new district, 2,187 residents (49.7%) chose "existing district as Jinwol-dong, new district as Hyodeok-dong."
Next, 1,020 residents (23.2%) selected "Hyodeok-dong and Hyochon-dong," followed by opinions for "Hyodeok 1-dong and Hyodeok 2-dong" and "Hyodeok-dong and Hyodeok 1-dong," with 915 residents (20.8%) and 109 residents (2.5%) respectively.
Additionally, 32 respondents chose "Hyodeok-dong and Hyoji-dong," and 140 residents submitted no response or other opinions.
Nam-gu is considering various methods, including holding resident forums, to further gather residents' opinions on the district naming.

A Nam-gu official stated, "Based on the resident survey results, we plan to expedite the subdivision work for the densely populated Hyodeok-dong as much as possible," adding, "We will open the new district administrative welfare center by the first half of next year to provide residents with the best civil services and promote administrative efficiency."
