Overall Management of Police Anti-Corruption Policies
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] On the afternoon of the 1st, the National Police Agency held the 'National Police Agency Anti-Corruption Council' at the police headquarters in Migeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
This council was formed as part of the 'Comprehensive Anti-Corruption Measures for the Police' announced by the police in October this year. The council is composed of external experts in anti-corruption and integrity from academia, media, and civil society, playing a role in enhancing the objectivity and effectiveness of police anti-corruption policies.
The council will especially oversee the overall process of establishing, diagnosing, and evaluating police anti-corruption policies, including ▲diagnosis of anti-corruption policies ▲recommendations for improvement when major corruption cases occur ▲deliberation and resolution of mid- to long-term basic police anti-corruption plans ▲inspection of anti-corruption policy implementation by function ▲recommendations for measures to prevent recurrence when major corruption cases occur.
The council is co-chaired by the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency and an external chairperson. The inaugural external chairperson is Professor Emeritus Kim Byung-seop of Seoul National University, and the council consists of a total of 15 members, including 10 external experts including the chairperson and 5 police officials.
