Mapo-gu Achieves Three Consecutive Wins in Local Autonomy Policy Awards
Mapo-gu 'Anything Consultation Window', Awarded Grand Prize for Proactive Administration for Residents... Winner of Grand Prize in 2018 for 'Mapo 1beonga' and Excellence Award in 2019 for 'Lifelong Learning City'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced that it won the grand prize for ‘Anything Consultation Desk’ at the ‘5th Korea Local Autonomy Policy Awards’ ceremony held at the Kensington Hotel in Yeouido on November 30.
The ‘Korea Local Autonomy Policy Awards’ is held annually to select and award innovative projects promoted by local governments nationwide and to widely disseminate them. Mapo-gu was recognized for the excellence of its policies by being selected as an award-winning institution for three consecutive years, having won the grand prize in 2018 for ‘Mapo 1st Street’ and the grand prize in 2019 for ‘Lifelong Learning City.’
This year, Mapo-gu’s ‘Anything Consultation Desk,’ implemented for the first time nationwide, is a one-stop civil complaint consultation service that allows consultations without boundaries of work, from minor daily complaints to welfare consultations for basic survival, all in a single visit.
To enhance residents’ convenience and perform administration closely linked to daily life, the district assigned experienced non-managerial Grade 6 public officials as dedicated staff for the ‘Anything Consultation Desk,’ and by promoting proactive administration without limiting the scope and jurisdiction of work, Mapo-gu received high evaluations at this year’s ‘Korea Local Autonomy Policy Awards’ and was able to win the grand prize.
The district resolved issues such as emergency generator exhaust smoke in apartments and persuaded stakeholders to proceed with construction to reassure residents worried about collapsing walls. In just this year alone, Mapo-gu received and processed 742 applications for ‘Anything Consultation.’ Additionally, in the ‘2nd Anniversary Satisfaction Survey of the 7th Local Government’ conducted for residents in May, the ‘Anything Consultation Desk’ was ranked 4th.
Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu said, “The district promotes various services for the residents, and I believe the threshold for administrative services should not be high. We have set up consultation desks at the most familiar community service centers so that residents can easily approach them, and we will work together to solve problems whenever there are difficulties in any field of civil complaints.”
