Seoul Jung-gu Hosts Untact Urban Industry Expo
Increasing Awareness, Attracting Designers, Securing Sales Channels to Connect to Online Platform... 45 Collaborative Works by Small Business Owners and Designers Including Lighting, Printing, and Furniture
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) will hold the '2020 Jung-gu Urban Industry Expo' online on the 4th, where the development potential of urban industries can be seen at a glance.
The '2020 Jung-gu Urban Industry Expo' integrates the previously separately held 'Euljiro Light Way (Lighting Festival)' and 'Printing Design Week (Printing Festival)' into one, adding fields such as furniture, metal, acrylic, and tiles to create an online exhibition hall.
Through this, the expo aims to enhance the awareness of urban industries such as lighting, printing, tiles, and ceramics concentrated in Euljiro and Chungmuro, attract young designers, and activate urban industries so that they can secure sales channels.
Additionally, there are plans to link this to a sustainable non-face-to-face online platform that is resilient even in challenges like COVID-19.
Since last September, the district has begun full-scale preparations for the expo by starting collaborations between small business owners and designers in fields such as lighting, printing, and furniture. Thanks to this, 9 teams in lighting, 20 teams in printing, and 4 teams in furniture have produced exhibition works, showcasing new forms of works never seen before.
In particular, this expo emphasizes design aspects while focusing on producing commercially viable products, matching designers with product mass production experience and small business owners as teams. Through mutual know-how transfer, they have opened channels of exchange to find the intersection between creativity and reality.
Also notable is the 'Eulji Object' exhibition conducted by designers and university students. They creatively produce works using materials available in Euljiro, presenting the future of urban industries with a fresh perspective unique to Euljiro.
Furthermore, the district supported the production costs of products participating in the expo for those affected by COVID-19, providing a stepping stone for urban industries to leap into future industries despite difficult circumstances.
A total of 45 works across four fields?lighting, printing, furniture, and Eulji Object?will be exhibited online on the official website during this expo.
In addition, the product development process will be produced as separate videos and shared through various SNS such as Instagram and the website. The exhibited works support 360-degree VR views so that they can be vividly and three-dimensionally appreciated online. Once the COVID-19 situation stabilizes, offline exhibitions will also be held early next year.
Until the 14th, an event offering various prizes is ongoing. By following the Jung-gu Urban Industry Expo Instagram, visitors can not only participate in the prize event but also watch introductions of expo participants, production processes, and interview videos of participants.
