US COVID-19 New Cases Exceed 200,000
Johns Hopkins University Daily Tally: 205,557 New Cases
Includes Unreported Figures from Thanksgiving
Spread Likely to Worsen Reflecting Thanksgiving Population Movement Impact
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States has surpassed 200,000, marking the highest daily count recorded. There are concerns that the spread could accelerate further due to the massive movement of people within the U.S. during Thanksgiving.
On the 28th (local time), Johns Hopkins University, which tracks the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S. and worldwide, announced that 205,557 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the U.S. the previous day. This is the first time daily new COVID-19 cases in the U.S. have exceeded 200,000. Recently, the U.S. has seen a sharp increase in new cases, with daily counts consistently surpassing 100,000.

The international statistics site Worldometer also reported that as of the 25th Korean time, the U.S. had 116,597 new cases the previous day and 167,818 cases the day before that.
Nonetheless, the average number of new COVID-19 cases over the past week has exceeded 166,000, indicating a rapid spread of the virus in the U.S. As cases increase, hospitalizations and deaths have also risen. The average daily death toll over the past week reached 1,477.
Moreover, despite health authorities' concerns during the Thanksgiving period, large-scale movement within the U.S. has increased the risk of further transmission. Approximately 6.5 million Americans traveled by airplane and 50 million by car to visit relatives or family during Thanksgiving. This level of movement is reported to be the largest since March of this year.
