US Time Magazine's 'Person of the Year' Nominees Include BTS and Blackpink
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] The American current affairs magazine Time has included idol groups BTS and BLACKPINK among the nominees for 'Person of the Year.'
On the 25th (local time), Time began conducting an online vote for the 'Person of the Year' nominees, which include BTS and BLACKPINK.
BTS, the first Korean pop music artists to be nominated for the American music award 'Grammy Awards,' have gained great popularity on the U.S. stage as well. BTS, nominated for 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' at the 63rd Grammy Awards to be held on January 31 next year, appeared remotely on the American CBS talk show and said, "It seems our efforts are finally being rewarded. This is the greatest honor we have received so far."
The four-member girl group BLACKPINK is also enjoying worldwide popularity, with their music video for "DDU-DU DDU-DU" being the first K-pop group video to surpass 1.4 billion views on YouTube.
Other nominees for Time's 'Person of the Year' include Kamala Harris, the first Black and female vice president-elect in American history; Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), who opposed President Donald Trump during the U.S. response to COVID-19; as well as President-elect Joe Biden and President Donald Trump.

Time's 'Person of the Year' will be announced on the 10th of next month. Last year's Person of the Year selected by Time was Swedish teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
