Dr. Jang Yong-seok Appointed Chair of OECD Science and Technology Policy Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Jang Yong-seok, Senior Research Fellow at the Science and Technology Policy Institute, was elected as the chairperson at the 117th General Assembly of the OECD Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP), held online from the 24th to 25th.
The OECD has 36 committees under its highest decision-making body, the Council, which discuss policies by sector. Among them, the Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy is an organization that discusses science and technology policies of member countries and promotes cooperation.
This is the second time a Korean has been elected chairperson of a committee under the OECD. Previously, Min Won-ki, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, served as chairperson of the OECD Digital Economy Policy Committee for two years starting in 2017.
Chairperson Jang has served as vice-chair of this committee for the past six years. Going forward, he is expected to lead the Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy together with vice-chairs from five countries (the United States, Japan, Switzerland, Finland, and the EU).

Jung Hee-kwon, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "We will actively support Chairperson Jang Yong-seok’s activities so that he can lead discussions on science and technology innovation policies in the post-COVID-19 era."
