On the 25th, Samsung Electronics reported that four additional employees from the Wireless Business Division working in the R5 building at the Suwon plant tested positive for COVID-19.
Earlier, employee A from the Wireless Business Division was first confirmed positive on the 22nd. Subsequently, about 300 employees who worked on the same floor of the R5 building and were classified as close contacts underwent COVID-19 testing.
Afterward, two employees at the Suwon plant tested positive on the 24th. Including A and the four who tested positive that day, a total of seven employees working on the relevant floor of the R5 building have been infected with COVID-19. Most of the remaining employees reportedly tested negative.
The R5 building was closed for one day on the 23rd for disinfection and has been reopened since the previous day. The floor of the R5 building where the confirmed cases worked remained closed until the 25th. Samsung Electronics instructed employees working on that floor to work from home for two weeks to prevent secondary infections.
On the morning of the same day, one employee from the Device Solutions (DS) division working on Line 16 at the Hwaseong plant also tested positive. However, the confirmed employee did not enter the production line, so the line is operating normally.
Samsung Electronics has implemented quarantine measures according to the confirmed employee’s movement and is isolating employees who had close contact with the confirmed case.
