Gwangju City Council Urges Prompt Passage of the Special Act Amendment Bill
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim Yong-jip) announced on the 24th that it strongly urges the prompt passage of the amendment to the Special Act on the Creation of the National Asia Culture Center (hereinafter referred to as the A-teuk Act) to normalize the National Asia Culture Center.
On the same day, the Gwangju City Council held a press conference at the council press room in the morning and stated, "We, the members of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, cannot help but condemn the news that the subcommittee is being operated in a dysfunctional manner because the People Power Party recently refused to put the bill on the agenda, citing it as a contentious bill, and discussions have not even taken place."
The amendment to the Special Act on the Creation of the National Asia Culture Center, aimed at normalizing the National Asia Culture Center, was proposed in August and is currently referred to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee’s Subcommittee on Culture and Arts Legislation (Chairman Kim Seung-su of the People Power Party).
Recently, members of the People Power Party belonging to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee have refused to discuss the amendment to the A-teuk Act, citing reasons such as "high costs and the need for extensive preparation regarding employment issues," and have claimed as if the center is trying to change from its original corporate organization to a state-affiliated institution.
The Gwangju City Council explained, "The National Asia Culture Center is a national project promoted with the purpose of achieving balanced national development and is currently operated as a government-affiliated national institution," adding, "The National Assembly Budget Office clearly stated that there are almost no additional costs and that this bill is not subject to cost estimation."

It continued, "The People Power Party, to prove that their claim of 'accompanying Honam' was not a 'political show,' should no longer obstruct the passage of the A-teuk Act amendment and should not use it as a tool for political conflict," and argued, "The obstruction can only be seen as a tactic to turn this bill into a political bargaining chip."
