Min Byeong-dae, Jeonnam Provincial Council Member, Receives 'National Eco-Friendly Outstanding Council Member Grand Prize'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Min Byeong-dae, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member (Democratic Party of Korea·Yeosu 3), received the Best Member Award at the ‘2020 National Local Assembly Eco-friendly Excellent Member’ hosted by the Korea Environmental Information Research Center on the 23rd.
The Korea Environmental Information Research Center evaluates local assembly members who have carried out eco-friendly legislative activities based on values such as ▲diligence ▲depth ▲sustainability ▲feasibility ▲contribution, and awards the Eco-friendly Best Member Award.
This year showed a higher competition rate than usual despite various restrictions on policy formulation and implementation due to COVID-19. After a thorough evaluation of the official records, the judges selected 25 members (10 metropolitan, 15 basic).
Assembly member Min Byeong-dae was the first nationwide to include ‘marine microplastics’ as marine waste and explicitly stipulated its management and regulation in the ‘Jeollanam-do Coastal Environment Management and Conservation Ordinance (Complete Revision Ordinance).’ He also took the lead in proposing the ‘Jeollanam-do Basic Environmental Ordinance (Partial Amendment Ordinance)’ last year, which strengthened proper management of hazardous chemicals and atmospheric environment standards and measurement methods for ultrafine dust following the Yeosu Industrial Complex environmental pollutant emission manipulation incident.
In particular, he was honored with the ‘Best Member Award’ in recognition of his contributions, including activities in the public-private cooperation governance committee for establishing a comprehensive environmental management plan for the Yeosu National Industrial Complex after the air pollution measurement manipulation incident, and the special committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly for attracting the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) to address climate change through voluntary greenhouse gas reduction.
