Post Office Parcels with 'Gumeong Handle'... Weight Reduced by 10%
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Hole handles will be added to post office parcel boxes weighing over 7kg. With the weight reduced by about 10%, it is expected to improve the work convenience for delivery workers, couriers, and sorting staff.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Post announced that from the 23rd, post office parcel boxes with hole handles will be sold at post offices in the metropolitan area and Gangwon region. The hole handle parcel boxes were prepared to alleviate the difficulties of workers amid the rapid increase in courier demand due to non-face-to-face economic activities.
The hole handle has been applied to size 5 parcel boxes used for heavy parcels weighing over 7kg. It is one of the six types of parcel boxes sold at post offices. Additionally, a material with reinforced pulp composition was applied to enhance durability so that it does not break even under heavy loads.
It is expected that the hole handles will improve the work convenience of workers involved in parcel and courier delivery. According to the "Survey on Musculoskeletal Disorders of Mart Workers" published by the Labor Environment and Health Research Institute, creating handles on boxes can reduce the load of heavy objects by more than 10%. Last year, 3.7 million parcel boxes were used for items weighing over 7kg sold by the post office.
At the event commemorating the sale of hole handle boxes, Minister of Science and ICT Choi Ki-young, Shin Dong-geun, Chairman of the Democratic Party's Small but Certain Happiness Committee, Lee Su-jin, General Secretary, Congressman Lee Yong-bin, and Park Sung-min, Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party, attended.
