Ministry of Foreign Affairs Latin America Cooperation Center Symposium Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 19th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the "2020 Latin America Cooperation Center Symposium" at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul under the theme "Exploring Changes in the Environment for Entry into Latin America and Promising Entry Sectors" to support Korean companies' entry into Latin America in the post-COVID-19 era.
This symposium limited offline participants to fewer than 50 people in consideration of COVID-19 prevention measures, but was held with live online streaming so that not only industry, academia, and research officials related to Latin America but also the general public interested in the Latin American region could watch. Attendees included experts from the Overseas Construction Association, Korea Health Industry Development Institute, Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, Born2Global Center, KOTRA, POSCO Research Institute, as well as Latin America experts from academia and Korean companies in construction, infrastructure, medical, telecommunications, and logistics sectors.
The Latin America Cooperation Center, established in 2008 to support Korean companies' entry into Latin America, provides industry trends and bidding information on Latin America to companies, academia, experts, public institutions, and the general public, and publishes webzines and research reports. Since 2010, it has held an annual symposium to share the latest information on the Latin American market.
This symposium proceeded with an opening address by the Director of the Latin America Cooperation Center (Choi Jong-wook, Latin America Division Counselor), followed by presentations and discussions on △Post-COVID-19 Latin American economic and trade environment outlook, △Trends and prospects for entry into the Latin American infrastructure construction market, and △Current status and cooperation plans for Latin American digital healthcare, ICT startups, and environmental markets.
The Latin America Cooperation Center decided to identify the difficulties Korean companies face in entering Latin America through surveys and seek solutions to support them.
