[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Japan's daily new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have surpassed 2,300. For two consecutive days, the number has remained in the 2,000s.
According to NHK's tally on the 19th, as of 6:30 PM, the number of new confirmed cases announced by prefectures and airport quarantine stations was 2,363, setting a new record high. Following the previous day's 2,201 cases, this marks two consecutive days with numbers in the 2,000s. There were 14 deaths reported.
The number of infections is significantly increasing, especially in metropolitan areas such as Tokyo. On this day, Tokyo reported 534 new confirmed cases, surpassing the previous day's 493. This broke the highest record for the past three months for two consecutive days. Accordingly, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government raised the COVID-19 infection alert to the highest level of the four-stage scale, "Infection Spread Judgment." This is the first time since September 10.
In Osaka, 338 new infections were recorded on the same day, also a record high.
