'Wirye Line Tram' Construction Period Likely to Be Significantly Shortened After Over 10 Years
Seoul City Approves 'Design-Build Lump Sum Bidding' for Wirye Line Urban Railway Construction, Known as 'Turnkey' Method... Councilor Jeong Jin-cheol: "Thankful for Songpa Residents' Support, Committed to Shortening Completion Schedule with Fast-Track Method and Making It a Local Landmark"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The ‘Wirye Line Tram’ project, which has been ongoing for over 10 years, received final approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on October 29. Following this, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has confirmed that the construction will be carried out using the fast-track method called ‘Design-Build Lump Sum Contract,’ also known as the ‘turnkey’ method.
As a result, the construction period is expected to be significantly shortened.
On the 18th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held a Construction Technology Review Committee meeting to review the bidding method for large-scale projects related to the Wirye Line urban railway construction. It was finally decided to proceed with the construction using the ‘Design-Build Lump Sum Contract’ method.
This allows the detailed design and construction to be carried out simultaneously in an integrated manner, enabling the construction period to be advanced much earlier compared to ‘other construction methods.’
Jeong Jin-cheol, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party, Songpa 6), stated, “The long-awaited project that has been delayed for over 10 years has been confirmed thanks to the support of Songpa residents. As we continuously requested to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the decision to use the fast-track method will shorten the construction schedule.” He added, “I will do my best in legislative activities to advance the completion schedule and help make it a local landmark and a tourism product.”
The Wirye Line Tram project is a plan to introduce an eco-friendly new transportation mode, a streetcar (tram), according to the ‘Wirye Line Urban Railway Basic Plan.’ It involves constructing the main line (4.7 km) connecting a total of 10 stations, starting from Macheon Station on Line 5, passing through the planned single-family housing site in Wirye New Town, Wirye Central Plaza, Wirye Transit Mall (central), and ending at Bokjeong Station on Line 8 and the Bundang Line. Additionally, a branch line (0.7 km) will be built connecting 2 stations via the southern side of Wirye Transit Mall to the additional station currently under construction on Line 8.
