Game Rating Classification Simplified... Amendment Passed in National Assembly Plenary Session
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] The amendment to the Game Industry Promotion Act, which simplifies the game content rating system, passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 19th.
The amendment, jointly proposed by Lee Sangheon of the Democratic Party of Korea, focuses on simplifying the rating procedure by applying a survey-type rating system. It also includes provisions such as imposing mandatory system raters, criminal penalties for distribution with content different from the rated content, and obligations to comply with corrective orders.
Until now, the domestic review administrative procedures were more complicated compared to overseas, resulting in longer times to receive actual ratings. This caused inconvenience not only to developers but also to users.
The bill will be promulgated through the Cabinet meeting, and detailed systems and post-management measures will be established for full implementation starting at the end of next year.
