Jeju-si to Operate Specialized Search Team Utilizing Drone Clubs Starting Next Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju City announced on the 19th that starting next month, it will operate a specialized search team for missing persons using the 'Drone Club,' a workplace club composed of public officials.
The operation of the drone search team for missing persons is due to the increased risk of social disasters caused by the concentration of residential areas and the aging population, resulting in various types of missing persons cases such as child disappearances, runaways, dementia, hiking, fishing, and beach incidents. This has increased the need for equipment that can be quickly deployed and used for searches not only by the police and fire departments but also by administrative authorities.
The drone search team is organized in pairs of two: a pilot and a co-pilot. The search range of the drone is approximately a 1 km radius per flight. The pilot, who holds an ultralight aircraft operator license, is responsible for controlling the drone, while the co-pilot handles communication of the situation and emergency response.
The Jeju City Drone Club also possesses search drones equipped with infrared sensors, GPS, and other equipment.
