On the 18th, Pohang City received the Nuri Shelter Award (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award) at the 15th Korea Spatial Culture Awards ceremony held at Summit Gallery in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. This award has been jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Institute of Architects since 2006 to improve the quality of life for citizens.
Among 35 entries submitted from local governments, public institutions, and the private sector nationwide, six works were finally selected after the first document screening and the second on-site evaluation. In the green ecological city category, 'Pohang Cheolgilsup' was the only work chosen.
Additionally, it was selected for the Excellence Award at the 20th Natural Environment Awards. The ceremony will be held on the 27th at the AT Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul. This award is sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and hosted by the Korea Ecological Restoration Association. This year, among 28 submissions, 16 works including Pohang Cheolgilsup were selected after the first document screening and the second on-site evaluation.
Last year, Pohang Cheolgilsup also won three awards in external evaluations in the green city category, earning the title of 'Triple Crown,' and it continues its reputation this year.
Pohang Cheolgilsup is a leading project of Pohang City's 'Pohang GreenWay Project,' which is focused on creating a green ecological city where nature and people coexist. It has been praised for effectively integrating various functions of urban forests, such as transforming abandoned railway tracks running through the city into a forest and establishing a green transportation system within the city for walking and cycling.
