The screen stretches sideways... Oppo unveils rollable phone
Swipe the button up to expand the 6.7-inch screen to 7.4 inches
Equipped with left-right dual rolling motors... opens with uniform force
Release schedule undecided... LG plans to unveil in March next year
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Chinese company Oppo has unveiled a rollable smartphone with a screen that can expand up to 7.4 inches.
On the 17th (local time), Oppo introduced the rollable phone 'Oppo X 2021' at the Inno Day 2020 conference, featuring a 6.7-inch smartphone screen that can extend up to 7.4 inches.
Oppo stated, "Users can adjust the screen size according to their needs," and added, "This product will open a new era of screens."
Oppo's rollable smartphone expands the left frame when the button on the right side is swiped up, and when swiped down once more, the display retracts back to the left.
From the rear view, the screen expands based on a diagonal sectioned off next to the rear camera, with the outermost external frame opening. The internal sliding frame inside the external frame expands and retracts but is not visible when closed.
The display is equipped with dual rolling motors at the bottom, allowing the screen to expand without wrinkles. The motors are distributed on both sides, enabling the screen to be unfolded with equal force.
A metal support layer is added beneath the display to prevent it from collapsing. The external frame surrounding the display is presumed to be made of plastic. The product unveiled by Oppo is likely a prototype, and no specific release schedule has been announced.
