LG U+ Completes 5G SA Preparation with Container-Based Core Equipment
[Asia Economy Reporter Seolgina Cho] LG Uplus announced on the 17th that it has completed testing of container-based 5G core equipment (mobile switching center and packet switching center).
A container is a small, independent operating system that can run anywhere, and is considered a key element of next-generation 5G required for cloud environments.
Through this test, LG Uplus is evaluated to have proven that it has completed the technical preparations to launch standalone mode (SA) to provide stable and high-quality 5G services through next-generation 5G core equipment.
The telecom company can quickly install and deploy applications through container technology, modularize by function and characteristics, and expand to configure only the specific functions needed in different applications.
Compared to existing network function virtualization (NFV) equipment, it uses less CPU and memory, optimizing hardware resources to achieve high performance. In addition, it can secure stability by automating operational tasks such as fault handling, performance and capacity expansion, and application deployment even during operation.
Previously, LG Uplus applied the 'Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol (TWAMP)' that manages transmission quality through a software-defined network (SDN) controller to the transmission network section.
