H7N7 Type AI Confirmed in Wild Bird Droppings at Gumi Haepyeong Wetland

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] As a result of testing wild bird droppings collected from the Haepyeong migratory bird habitat in Gumi City, the H7 subtype avian influenza (AI) virus was identified as H7N7.
On the 16th, the National Wildlife Disease Control Center under the Ministry of Environment announced that the H7 subtype AI virus detected in wild bird droppings from the Haepyeong Wetland in Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province on the 13th was confirmed to be H7N7. The H7N7 virus is the same type as the highly pathogenic AI that occurred in Australia in August. Until now, all four cases of highly pathogenic AI confirmed in Korea were of the H5N8 subtype.
