Korea GM Union Fails to Reach Wage and Working Conditions Agreement... Four Days of Partial Strike
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The union, which failed to reach an agreement with the Korea GM (GM) management on wage and collective bargaining, will resume partial strikes for four days.
The Korea GM branch of the Korean Metal Workers' Union announced at the Central Dispute Countermeasures Committee held on the 16th that they will carry out partial strikes from the 17th to the 20th.
Workers on both the early and late shifts at Korea GM are expected to strike for four hours each day during this period and continue refusing overtime and special work that began on the 23rd of last month.
Union officials plan to begin an overnight sit-in starting on the last day of the partial strike, the 20th.
The partial strike that the Korea GM union has been conducting since the 30th of last month has been extended to a total of 12 days due to this Central Dispute Countermeasures Committee decision.
Korea GM management proposed at the 21st collective bargaining session a final plan to pay a total of 8 million KRW per union member over four days as performance bonuses and other compensation.
The union demanded that the management present plans to allocate new car production volumes to the Incheon Bupyeong 2 Plant in this round of wage and collective bargaining negotiations, but the management indicated that they would only partially extend the production schedule for vehicles already assigned.
