Opening Ceremony of Gwangjin-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Winter Preparedness on the 13th
- Snow Removal Measures to be Implemented for Four Months from the 15th of This Month to March 15 Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seongap) opened the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the first floor of the Safety Management Building at the district office on the 13th in preparation for the winter season, and will actively implement snow removal measures until March 15 next year.
At the opening ceremony, about 10 officials from the district and neighborhood offices, including Gwangjin District Mayor Kim Seongap, gathered to hear about the progress of the snow removal measures and to encourage the staff.
The Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters is composed of 13 task forces, including the Situation Management General Team, Facility Emergency Recovery Team, and Emergency Livelihood Support Team, with the district mayor as the head. It monitors weather conditions 24 hours a day and initiates emergency duty in stages when weather warnings are issued.
In snow removal vulnerable areas, a responsibility system is implemented by route for focused management. During snowfall, snow removal agents are preemptively spread in the order of vulnerable areas among key snow removal sections, main roads, sidewalks, and side roads.
Additionally, to ensure rapid initial snow removal in vulnerable areas, snow removal equipment such as automatic remote liquid spreaders and mobile automatic remote spreaders will be actively utilized in steep areas and places where snow removal vehicles have difficulty accessing.
Furthermore, 93 snow removal boxes, 200 calcium chloride storage boxes, and 95 resident autonomous snow removal tool boxes will be installed at neighborhood community centers and subway station entrances. A "Clear Snow in Front of Your House and Store" campaign will be conducted to prepare snow removal measures in cooperation with residents.
Moreover, before implementing the snow removal measures, the district enacted the "Ordinance on Snow and Ice Removal by Building Managers" last October, which specifically defines the scope of snow removal responsibilities for building managers to encourage residents' voluntary snow removal and prevent safety accidents.

District Mayor Kim Seongap said, "Despite the longest rainy season, typhoons, and heavy rains this past summer, the district was safely protected by all employees working together centered on the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. We will do our best to prepare for heavy snowfall and cold waves this winter so that residents can spend the season warmer and safer."
