Following CGV, Megabox Also Raises Movie Ticket Prices
General Hall, Comfort Hall, and MX Hall Average Price Increase of 1,000 Won
"Price Increase Inevitable Due to Operational Stability Limits"
Following CGV, Megabox is also raising movie ticket prices.
Megabox announced on the 13th that starting from the 23rd, the regular movie ticket price (adult) will increase to 12,000 KRW on weekdays and 13,000 KRW on weekends (Friday to Sunday). Ticket prices for regular theaters, Comfort theaters, and MX theaters will be raised by an average of 1,000 KRW each. A representative stated, "Depending on the time slot or location, prices may remain the same or the increase may vary."
The reason for the increase is the same as CGV's one month ago: rising fixed theater costs (rent, maintenance fees, labor costs) and worsened business conditions due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The representative said, "The movie market has sharply contracted due to the spread of COVID-19, leading to a serious management crisis." They added, "Since February, we have implemented an emergency management system, including executives returning their salaries, all employees taking rotating unpaid leave, reduced operating hours, and closing some locations, but the uncertainty of business normalization has not been resolved. Operational stability has reached its limit, making a price increase inevitable."
Ticket prices for Dolby Cinema and premium special theaters such as The Boutique, Balcony, and Private theaters are excluded from the increase. Discounted rates applied to national merit recipients, persons with disabilities, seniors aged 65 and over, preschool children, and police and fire service personnel will remain unchanged.
