The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology announced on the 12th that it jointly developed this system with Jumping High Co., Ltd. and GeoIT Co., Ltd.
Jumping fitness is a group exercise where 20 to 30 people follow a fitness instructor's movements and choreography to music on individual trampolines. It is very popular in Europe, the United States, and other regions.
Led by Isuwoong, head of the Safety Systems Research Group at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, this system integrates motion recognition technology and immersive content into existing jumping fitness. The movements of trampoline users are recognized using Microsoft's Azure Kinect sensor. It can also evaluate and score in real time whether the user's movements match those of a professional instructor. A separate camera tracks the shadow of the feet projected under the trampoline to determine the position and depth of foot contact, calculating jump power and calories burned. When connected to a network, remote guidance and public lessons among members are possible, and game content is also supported.
Group leader Isuwoong developed this system by applying video-based soft tactile sensor technology. This technology indirectly acquires contact information through camera-based video signals. By calculating the inherent elasticity of the material and the degree of deformation when force is applied, it can estimate foot position, jump power, and exercise volume with about 95% accuracy.
Group leader Isuwoong said, "We plan to release the actual product within two years," adding, "Leveraging the advantage of jumping fitness that does not strain the joints, we intend to use it in the future as rehabilitation exercise equipment for the elderly and those with lower limb disabilities."
