View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Korea Coast Guard plans to establish a disaster safety communication network linking land and sea by 2022 to strengthen maritime disaster response capabilities at sites such as patrol vessels and police substations.
According to the Coast Guard on the 10th, the newly introduced disaster safety communication network is a nationwide communication system that integrates wireless communications of various disaster response agencies including the Coast Guard, police, fire department, military, and local governments into one.
Until now, the Coast Guard used its own communication network (LTE), which caused inconvenience as they had to separately contact related agencies such as the Navy via landline phones when disasters occurred at sea.
Going forward, the Coast Guard plans to use the disaster safety communication network being established by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on land at frontline substations, and utilize the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ high-speed maritime wireless communication network (LTE-M) on patrol vessels located 100 km offshore.
In sea areas beyond the coverage of the high-speed maritime wireless communication network, satellite communication networks will be linked to maintain the communication system.
The Coast Guard will first introduce about 1,300 terminals for the disaster safety communication network this year and build infrastructure such as recording servers next year. By 2022, they plan to additionally equip about 5,200 terminals.
