[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) held the ‘Innovative Education Local Government Council Seoul Regional Forum’ to discuss educational issues and response measures in each region during the COVID-19 era.
The ‘Innovative Education Local Government Council’ is a group launched in March 2018 to strengthen cooperation between central and local governments, as well as between general autonomy and educational autonomy. Currently, 53 local governments nationwide participate in its activities.
At the regular second half general meeting held on July 16, the district attracted attention by announcing the Songpa Education Model, Songpa SSEM (SSEM), and as a result, Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, was appointed as the Senior Vice Chairman of the Innovative Education Local Government Council.
This forum was held on the 6th as a Seoul regional meeting at the Songpa-gu Office auditorium. About 30 officials from Seoul’s autonomous districts who joined the Innovative Education Local Government Council attended, including Hwang Ho-young, Special Committee Chair for Community Cooperation of the Presidential National Education Council.
The attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on ▲expansion and sustainable operation of education districts ▲opening of school facilities and space remodeling ▲development of village education curricula.
In particular, they shared opinions on educational issues and response measures in each region in the With-Corona era and agreed to strengthen the establishment and cooperation of a public-private-academic governance system for future education.
Songpa-gu plans to have the contents derived from this discussion presented by Senior Vice Chairman Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, representing the Seoul region at the second half regular general meeting to be held at Osan City Hall on the 17th. After overall discussions, the proposals will be formally submitted to the Ministry of Education to be reflected in education policies.
Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu said, “Seoul member cities gathered for the first time to discuss the future direction of the education field, which has undergone rapid changes due to COVID-19,” adding, “Based on this forum, we will proactively respond to the era of educational transformation and strive to turn the current crisis into an opportunity.”
