Boseong-gun Strives to Maintain Clean Zone from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza
Operation of Mobile Posts for Vulnerable Farms, Periodic Disinfection of Migratory Bird Habitats
[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Recently, as AI outbreaks have surged in Europe and neighboring countries such as China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, the avian influenza (AI) virus in wild birds has been continuously detected in areas like Gyeonggi and Chungnam due to the arrival of migratory birds in winter.
Boseong County in Jeonnam announced on the 9th that it has been operating a special quarantine task force situation room since October to proactively block highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and is focusing its efforts on preventing avian influenza.
To this end, the county's quarantine vehicles and joint control teams conduct disinfection at least three times a week around the Deukryangman migratory bird habitat.
In particular, banners and entry control signboards have been installed near the entrances and exits of the migratory bird habitat to guide poultry farm personnel to completely refrain from entering the migratory bird areas.
Additionally, control posts are being operated at duck farms, which are vulnerable to AI, and at poultry holding yards where frequent movement occurs.
The farm control posts disinfect the undersides of all vehicles entering the farms and perform duties such as verifying disinfection certificates from key disinfection facilities.
Moreover, the county is concentrating all its capabilities to preemptively block the inflow of AI virus from wild birds.

A county official stated, “Maintaining a clean zone free of highly pathogenic avian influenza requires cooperation from civilians,” and urged, “Residents are asked to refrain from visiting migratory bird habitats, and if entry is unavoidable, to thoroughly disinfect themselves. Farms should strictly follow periodic disinfection and biosecurity protocols to prevent AI.”
