So Su-jin: "Choo, the Queen of Self-Inflicted Trouble... Ordering Special Activity Fund Inspection Will Backfire on Herself"
National Assembly Judiciary Committee Conducts On-Site Inspection of Special Activity Funds at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and Ministry of Justice Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Jo Sujin, a member of the People Power Party, criticized Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, who ordered an inspection of the prosecution's special activity funds (special activity expenses), calling her the "Queen of Self-Inflicted Troubles."
Earlier, on the 6th, Minister Choo had instructed the Inspection Department of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to investigate and report on the allocation details of special activity funds by Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the 9th, Jo posted on her Facebook, "In conclusion, Minister Choo's offensive on special activity funds seems more likely to entangle herself rather than Prosecutor General Yoon, who was originally targeted."
Jo explained, "The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee will visit the Supreme Prosecutors' Office at 2 p.m. today to verify the execution details of special activity funds by the prosecution and the Ministry of Justice," adding, "This document verification follows last Thursday's Judiciary Committee session where Minister Choo and ruling party judiciary members suddenly raised issues about the prosecution's special activity funds."
She further pointed out Minister Choo's claims as "'Prosecutor General Yoon uses special activity funds as political funds at his discretion,' and 'Yoon only allocates funds to prosecution offices staffed by prosecutors close to him, excluding the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office,' which are the two main allegations."
Jo also highlighted that during the 2017 National Intelligence Service special activity funds investigation, the Ministry of Justice's special activity funds were also problematic, stating, "In 2017, the Ministry of Justice received 28.5 billion won from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and secured 10.6 billion won for its share," adding, "Since the Ministry of Justice is unrelated to intelligence or investigations, under the special activity funds regulations, using such funds itself is nonsensical. It is uncertain whether Minister Choo has corrected this practice," raising suspicions.
She cited Minister Choo's past actions as an example, saying, "She is indeed the 'Queen of Self-Inflicted Troubles,'" and criticized, "While trying to impeach President Roh Moo-hyun, she ended up performing the 'Samboilbae' (three times prostration) and helped turn President Roh's Uri Party into a 'dinosaur ruling party' with a majority of seats. What about the results of the investigation request to catch 'Druking'? Isn't it threatening the political life of Governor Kim Kyung-soo of Gyeongnam?"
