Seongnam Cultural Foundation to Hold Pianist Cho Seong-jin Recital on the 13th
Two Performances at 3 PM and 7:30 PM... Schumann, Szymanowski, Schubert, Liszt
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The Seongnam Cultural Foundation will hold a recital by pianist Seong-Jin Cho, the first Korean to win the Chopin Competition, on the 13th at the Seongnam Arts Center Concert Hall.
Seong-Jin Cho recently embarked on a nationwide tour in Korea for the first time in 2 years and 9 months, completing performances in Gwangju, Daegu, Busan, Changwon, and Seoul. Performances in Chuncheon on the 9th and Seongnam on the 13th are scheduled to follow.
This will be Seong-Jin Cho's first performance at the Seongnam Arts Center in 9 years. In 2011, at the age of 17, he participated as a collaborator in the "Jang Hanna's Absolute Classic III" organized by the Seongnam Cultural Foundation.
Seong-Jin Cho's recital will be held twice, at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM. The program includes works by Schumann, Szymanowski, Schubert, and Liszt.
The 3:00 PM performance will feature Schumann's "Scenes from Forest," Szymanowski's "Masks," and Schubert's "Wanderer Fantasy."
Szymanowski's "Masks" is a piece that is difficult to experience live not only in Korea but also overseas. Seong-Jin Cho is known for enjoying performing lesser-known works by outstanding composers.
Schubert's "Wanderer Fantasy" is the main track on Seong-Jin Cho's regular album released this May. In the album introduction, Cho described it as "a work that shows fantasy, imagination, and the freedom of the artist above all else."
The 7:30 PM performance will include Schumann's "Humoresque," Szymanowski's "Masks," and Liszt's "Piano Sonata in B minor."
Schumann's "Humoresque" is a piece that Seong-Jin Cho performed at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 when he was 17, and he will perform it again after 9 years. Liszt's "Piano Sonata in B minor" is a piece that Cho himself selected as the most difficult to record but one he is deeply attached to. This piece, considered the pinnacle of Romantic piano music, requires superhuman technique, power, and exceptional sensitivity to carry the dramatic development, promising a stage where Seong-Jin Cho's skills will be displayed without restraint.
