This expo is the largest regional expo in Korea held annually since 2004. It is a venue to discuss the vision and policies of national balanced development, share regional innovation cases, and communicate.
This year, considering the situation related to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), all events will be conducted online on the expo homepage.
In particular, this expo is held under the slogan "Regional Balanced New Deal, New Hope!" It aims to introduce how the regional balanced New Deal policy is transforming regions.
President Moon Jae-in recently mentioned in his National Assembly policy speech, "We will place the center of the Korean New Deal in the regions so that all citizens can feel it in their daily lives."
To this end, 17 metropolitan cities and provinces and local governments such as Cheongju City showed how the Digital New Deal, Green New Deal, and safety net reinforcement can be concretely realized in citizens' lives and local sites.
The government and local governments plan to share with the public various opinions on the achievements of the regional balanced New Deal so far and future directions.
Specifically, the expo consists of ▲Online Regional Balanced New Deal Exhibition Hall ▲Policy Expo ▲Citizen Participation Plaza. Key contents were pre-recorded to vividly show the scenes.
Local governments including 17 metropolitan cities and provinces and Cheongju City operate online exhibition halls. They promote Korean New Deal policies and cases such as hydrogen clusters and smart cities being pursued in each region.
Cheongju City, the host city this year, showed the future of the Digital New Deal through "Cheongju, the Center of Future Industry," utilizing next-generation synchrotron radiation accelerators and 5G communication technology.
Chungcheongbuk-do concretized the Green New Deal with solar energy and implemented a tourism and healing platform centered on Baekdudaegan.
The policy expo is held under the theme "National Balanced Development 2020: Region-led Korean New Deal," with a keynote speech by Kim Sa-yeol, Chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee, broadcast live online. Policy-related academic societies and special sessions are also held.
At the Citizen Participation Plaza, sustainable regional balanced New Deal policy ideas will be discussed through the "Innovation Network Council," which includes regional innovation activist groups.
