US COVID-19 Daily Cases Reach 128,000... Highest Ever Recorded
On the third day of the U.S. presidential election vote count on the 5th (local time), supporters of President Donald Trump (right), who had gathered outside the counting center set up at the TCF Center in Detroit, Michigan, to protest the vote count results, are seen arguing with supporters of Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
On the 6th (local time) in the United States, the number of new COVID-19 cases reached a record high of approximately 128,000 in a single day, according to the Washington Post (WP).
This marks the third consecutive day that the daily new cases in the U.S. have exceeded 100,000.
Based on statistics from Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. recorded 102,831 new cases on the 4th and 121,888 on the 5th, breaking previous records, and the record was broken again on this day.
The 7-day average of daily new cases, an indicator used to show the trend of COVID-19 spread, increased by nearly 20,000 in one week, approaching 100,000.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. was counted at approximately 9.715 million on this day. The total surpassed 9 million on the 30th of last month, increasing by 700,000 in just seven days.
The spread is not limited to specific regions. On the previous day, the 5th, 20 states reported the highest number of new cases since the COVID-19 outbreak, spanning from the East to the Midwest, the Great Plains in the central region, and the West.
The WP also reported that the number of deaths exceeded 1,000 for four consecutive days up to this day. The cumulative COVID-19 death toll in the U.S. is approximately 235,000.
The WP noted that since mid-September, when cases began to rise, state governments have gradually strengthened regulations but have avoided full-scale measures, and some health experts hope that this situation will change after the election.
