Gwangju Nam-gu Leads Reading Culture with Establishment of Smart Library Branch No. 3
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 6th that it will establish the 3rd Smart Library by the end of this year to provide residents with lifestyle-oriented library services and to foster a reading culture atmosphere in the local community.
The establishment of the 3rd Smart Library follows Nam-gu Office being selected in the '2020 U-Library Service Support Project' contest conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism last year, with a total project cost of 75 million KRW invested.
The location of the Smart Library will be near the resting area in Pureungil Park, opposite Namgwangju Nonghyup in Juwol-dong.
It is situated close to a bus stop with a high floating population, including residents living in Baegun-dong and Juwol-dong within the district, and is also adjacent to the area where a local food direct sales store and street food zone are being developed as part of the Baegun Square urban regeneration New Deal project currently underway.
Not only is it easily accessible for residents, but it is also expected to play a significant role in expanding the reading culture as many people are anticipated to visit after the completion of the Baegun Square urban regeneration New Deal project.
Nam-gu plans to begin external booth installation work soon and install necessary facilities such as electricity, CCTV, and unmanned book lending and return machines for the Smart Library operation by the end of this year, with pilot operation scheduled to start from the end of this year.
The 3rd Smart Library is expected to stock about 200 books, including new releases and bestsellers, and plans to gradually increase the number of books based on user demand and requests for desired purchases.
