Kim Jong-in "Yoon Seok-yeol is currently part of the government... cannot be considered an opposition presidential candidate"
[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Lim Chun-han] Kim Jong-in, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, expressed his view that Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who is rapidly emerging as the opposition's presidential candidate, cannot be considered as such because he is "currently affiliated with the government."
Chairman Kim said this on the morning of the 6th after attending the 'Discussion on the Illegality of the Nuclear Phase-out Policy' held at the National Assembly, responding to reporters, "How can Yoon be called the opposition's presidential candidate?"
He blocked any possibility by stating, "Yoon is currently a person affiliated with the government."
Regarding the previous day's remarks by Minister of Gender Equality and Family Lee Jung-ok, who said "By-elections are an opportunity to learn gender sensitivity," and Chief Presidential Secretary Noh Young-min, who called "rally participants murderers," Kim said, "I don't really know who they are calling murderers," adding, "I hope they ask themselves whether a person in the position of Presidential Secretary can say such things."
At the discussion, Chairman Kim said, "While our country has adopted the slogan of nuclear phase-out, the whole world is currently experiencing a renaissance in nuclear power," adding, "Considering fine dust and environmental issues, there is no alternative to nuclear power."
He cited examples from the U.S. and China, saying, "Even Japan, which feared radiation threats the most due to the Fukushima incident and had suspended 54 nuclear reactors, is restarting them, and the same goes for Europe, including the UK and France," adding, "Only Germany is pursuing nuclear phase-out, but I think Germany will return to nuclear power in the future."
Chairman Kim pointed out, "With the upcoming restructuring of our country's industrial structure, especially related to the 4th Industrial Revolution, electricity demand will increase tremendously," and questioned, "President Moon said he would make a 'carbon-zero nation' by 2050, but will all electricity demand be stopped to achieve that?"
