Hyundai Unveils First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck in China... Accelerating China Market Strategy
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Group participated in the 3rd China International Import Expo held at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center to showcase its future smart mobility vision to the Chinese market. Through this exhibition, Hyundai Motor Group is accelerating its efforts to capture the Chinese market by unveiling the Chinese names of its hydrogen electric trucks and electric vehicle-exclusive brands for the first time.
According to the automotive industry on the 6th, Hyundai Motor Group operated an integrated pavilion for Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors for the first time at a large-scale exhibition in China, and separately set up a Genesis pavilion at the event held from the 4th to the 10th. In particular, presenting the vision of a ‘Smart Mobility Solution Provider,’ it showcased hydrogen electric vehicles, electrification, high-performance cars, and strategies in a total exhibition space of 1,600㎡, the largest among automakers.
At this expo, Hyundai unveiled the hydrogen electric heavy-duty truck Xcient to the Chinese market for the first time. Hyundai plans to pilot the Nexo in major Chinese cities in 2021 and launch a hydrogen electric medium-duty truck in 2022. Subsequently, it will introduce hydrogen electric heavy-duty trucks to expand its influence in the Chinese hydrogen electric vehicle market.
Alongside this, Hyundai officially announced the Chinese name of its electric vehicle brand IONIQ as Ainiqu (艾尼?), which is the Chinese pronunciation of IONIQ, at this expo. Along with the brand name reveal, Hyundai also showcased the EV concept car Prophecy, which was first unveiled online in March.
The Genesis brand unveiled its global models G80 and GV80 ahead of its entry into the Chinese market next year. Additionally, it exhibited the G90 Special Edition ‘Stardust’ to further emphasize the premium brand image.
Along with high-performance vehicles, various globally popular models were also showcased. Hyundai displayed the ▲high-performance electric vehicle model RM20e ▲high-performance racing car Elantra N TCR ▲large sport utility vehicle (SUV) Palisade, while Kia revealed to Chinese consumers the ▲North American Car of the Year Telluride ▲new Carnival model scheduled for sale in the Chinese market in the second half of next year ▲and the hybrid model of the Sorento, newly launched after six years.
